Collaboration Altrecht and UMC Utrecht Brain Center

 On monday the 2nd of December Altrecht and UMC Utrecht Brain Center signed a new contract in which both parties agreed to continue their collaboration for the next 5 years. The collaboration is aimed at doing research on eating disorders and raising funds to carry out research projects.


Joint projects will be initiated and will be aimed at:


understanding eating disorders

beter prediction of the course of eating disorders

improving eating disorder treatments



There has been a collaboration between Altrecht Eating Disorders Rintveld and UMCU Brain Center for many years. This collaboration is a result of the fact that the former department eating disorders of the UMC Utrecht merged with Rintveld in 2005. During the past years the collaboration was strengthened.



The intensive collaboration has resulted in an interdisciplanairy team of researchers in wich joint reasearch project are applied to and carried out. The Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Utrecht is also connected to the research group. Until now several projects have been subsidized by ZonMW and the European Union (EU FP7). This collaboration makes it possible to connect fundamental research with applied clinical scientific research.


People involved

People who are directly involved in this collaboration between Altrecht Eating Disorder and UMC Utrecht Brain Center are:


Professor Roger Adan, UMC Utrecht Brain Center. He also works for Altrecht Eating Disorders Rintveld and supervises researchers and PhD students. Next to this, he advises Rintveld on their scientific research. This has also influenced the development of Rintveld into a top clinical center that carries out translational reserach.


Professor Annemarie van Elburg, medical director at Rintveld and professor in the field of eating disorders at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Utrecht.
