Personality traits and uncertainty as a predictor for eating disorders

I obtained an MSc degree in Human Nutrition and Health at Wageningen University and Research Centre in 2000, with majors in Toxicology and Biochemistry. In September of that year I started working on a research project (hypothalamic signaling in an animal model of anorexia nervosa) with Prof Roger Adan and Dr Martien Kas at the Rudolf Magnus Institute of Neuroscience, which resulted in a PhD degree in January 2005. Fascinated by the possible role of hyperactivity and adiposity signals in the development of anorexia nervosa I continued this line of research in a clinical setting at Altrecht, Eating Disorders Rintveld with Dr Annemarie van Elburg and Prof Hans Hoek. At Rintveld I worked on improving a scientific infrastructure in the unit, on scientific studies on hyperactivity and genetics, and I compared effects of different treatments. In 2007 I broadened my horizon and started another postdoc on the role of adiposity signals on overeating and undereating at ETH Zurich, Switzerland in the laboratory of Prof Wolfgang Langhans and Nori Geary. I finally left the ‘Urge family’ in 2010 after starting a resident position in clinical chemistry in a regional Dutch hospital. My goal is to become a clinical chemist, specialized in endocrinology in a few years and (re)start clinical research in this field whenever possible.
